Dr. Joshua Benjamin is a water process specialist in the Water Technology Group in Black & Veatch. He has experience in water, energy, and environmental systems, with an interest in sustainable smart drinking water treatment. He has interned with Oak Ridge National Laboratory in their Water Power Group, with the City of Tampa in their Wastewater Permitting Department, and with Black & Veatch in the Water Division.
Joshua has experience in supporting projects through bench-scale and pilot-scale studies, and is skilled at process modeling, technical writing, cost estimating, and preliminary design. He has experience in groundwater and saltwater desalination as well as conventional and advanced treatment. He has a B.S. in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Material Science and Engineering from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of South Florida (USF).
His PhD work produced two journal articles, one conference paper and one technical report. The work focused on pressure-retarded osmosis, which is a form of energy recovery and brine management for seawater desalination. Through this project, he gained experience in Python and C++ programming and process design, computational fluid dynamics, AFM and SEM microscopy, and bench-scale pilot system design and operation.
